The event brought together past and present team members, school partners, and guests to reflect on the evolution of the program, which began as a small pilot to support students at risk and has since grown into a cornerstone of wellbeing across Catholic education.

Kate Dover, Acting CEO of CatholicCare Sydney, said the milestone was a moment to celebrate faith in action and the legacy of compassionate service that continues to shape generations.
“In 1993, a few people — guided by a simple belief in the dignity and worth of every young person — began what would become our first wellbeing program,” Ms Dover said.

“From those humble beginnings, a small act of service has flourished into a ministry of care, supported by 135 extraordinary people across five programs.
Together, we’ve been there for students in their struggles, for teachers under pressure, and for school leaders navigating complexity — each encounter a reflection of our mission to serve others with dignity and love.”

Guest speakers Stephen Said and Clare McMahon from Sydney Catholic Schools shared reflections on the program’s beginnings and its lasting impact on students and school communities, highlighting the strength of collaboration between CatholicCare and education partners.
Sharron Matayalo, Executive Director of School Wellbeing Services, said the milestone is a testament to collective care and the people who’ve made it possible.
“This celebration is about honouring the counsellors, school leaders, and partners who have walked this journey with us,” Ms Matayalo said.
“For thirty years, our mission has remained constant — to support the whole child, nurture safe and inclusive schools, and help every young person to thrive in their education.”
The morning also included a special video presentation and the launch of a commemorative publication, recognising the contributions of those who helped shape the service’s growth across three decades.
