Support at Home Update: Personal Care Services Fully Funded from 1 October 2026

From 1 October 2026, Support at Home will fully fund personal care services. Services like showering, dressing and eating will now move to clinical care.

At CatholicCare Sydney, we see the importance of waiving personal care fees. From 1 July, Support at Home recipients at CatholicCare Sydney will not have to pay contributions for approved services.

What are the changes starting 1 October 2026?

With personal care services now moving to clinical care, you will no longer pay contributions for these approved services. This also removes the means-tested participant fee for the daily tasks, making everyday services more accessible for all Australians receiving Support at Home funding.

What will now be fully funded?

If you or a loved one requires assistance with everyday activities, a range of essential tasks will now be covered. These include:

  • Showering
  • Continence support
  • Dressing
  • Eating
  • Hygiene
  • Assistance with self-administration of medication.

What should you do?

Existing Support at Home clients will not require a new aged care assessment. Your care will continue uninterrupted and contributions for other services will not change.

If you’re unsure, you can always check to see how your specific package might be adjusted by:

  • Confirm your support plan: check with your provider to see if your plan currently includes personal care
  • Understand the fees: request a breakdown of the fees on your invoice
  • Ensure your October invoice does not include personal care fees.

What does this mean for new and existing Support at Home recipients?

For all Australian recipients under Support at Home, personal support services will be delivered from 1 October 2026 without charge. Until this date, most providers will maintain current arrangements.

For CatholicCare Sydney clients, personal care fees will be waived from 1 July 2026.

At CatholicCare Sydney, we recognise how important these services are to your daily wellbeing, comfort, and dignity. To support clients, all personal care fees will be waived for CatholicCare Sydney’s Support at Home recipients from 1 July 2026.
