Family Dispute Resolution Service

Helping families reach agreements after separation

Separation can be overwhelming and stressful, especially when there are important decisions to make about children, property, and finances. Family Dispute Resolution (FDR) also known as mediation, is a practical and supportive way to resolve disputes without going to court.

At CatholicCare Sydney, our accredited Family Dispute Resolution Practitioners provide a safe, confidential space where parents and families can work through conflict and focus on the best interests of children.

What is Family Dispute Resolution?

Family Dispute Resolution (FDR) is a structured process that helps separated or separating families.

They're able to discuss issues around parenting, property, and finances, focus on the wellbeing of children, explore options and make decisions together and avoid the time, stress, and cost of going to court.

Our practitioners are impartial mediators, encouraging respectful communication, and guiding families to develop workable solutions.

Giving children a voice in a safe and supportive way

When parents separate, children are often deeply affected by the changes in family life.

That’s why your child’s best interests is always the first priority in Family Dispute Resolution (FDR).

While mediation is primarily between parents, there are times when it can be helpful for children’s voices to be heard through a safe, structured process.
