HOPE – Supporting young families and children to thrive

The HOPE Program gives young families the support they need to build a brighter future. Our team helps young women aged up to 25 who are pregnant or have a child under five years.

They may need help with a range of concerns including:

  • homelessness
  • trauma
  • disability
  • domestic violence
  • poor mental health
  • drug and alcohol issues
  • may have been in the out-of-home care system as a child themselves.

HOPE aims to:

  • keep families together and avoid intervention by the justice system
  • improve child developmental outcomes and help parents develop their parenting skills
  • break the cycle of generational disadvantage and heal from trauma
  • maximise all opportunities for the families' futures including pursuing education.

HOPE is growing!

Since we began in 2019, we have helped over 180 young families in the Sydney area to stay together and build greater hope for the future but if additional resources were available, we could help so many more. In the next three years, our aim is to support more than 300 young families.

Building Confidence, Stability and Independence

Through integrated one-on-one support, we help young families thrive by supporting them with:

  • pregnancy support
  • child development education
  • parenting strategies
  • playgroup and groupwork to meet other young families
  • address barriers that cause family stress
  • support to access education, training and employment
  • help accessing transitional accommodation and stable long-term housing.

This support is important for the young families’ immediate futures and also crucial for the child in the long term. Research shows that a safe and supported start to life leads to better health, education and social outcomes throughout life.
