Masterclass 1: Social Connection and Wellbeing

Masterclass 1: Social Connection and Psychological Wellbeing

In this class, we explored the importance of social connections and encouraged attendees to consider ways that they may reach out and connect to a wider community.

We also busted some myths around mental ill-health in later life, explaining that as we age mental ill-health isn’t the norm, but could be the result of gradual or sudden changes in circumstances like the loss of a partner, or declining physical health and abilities. Like physical ill-health, mental ill-health requires acknowledgment and treatment.

To conclude this class we looked at the 5 Ways to Wellbeing. Developed by The Royal Melbourne Hospital, the 5 Ways to Wellbeing looks at Connect, Be Active, Take Notice, Keep Learning, Give. You can find out more by visiting their website 5waystowellbeing.org.au.
