Did you know in the last five years the number of children reported at risk of significant harm has increased by 29.7%?

And since 2011, the number of concerned reports of children to the Child Protection Helpline has increased by 41%!

These are shockingly large statistics in issues that you would expect to be decreasing in our community.

Children born into abusive and unstable homes are at a high risk of becoming pregnant at a young age and are more likely to provide the same unhealthy environment for their own children. This is due to no fault of their own, but a lack of education available to them, and without any intervention the cycle of intergenerational disadvantage will continue.

Please make a tax deductible donation today, to help break this cycle of intergenerational trauma.

Our HOPE program currently provides early intervention services to vulnerable mothers between the ages of 16-25 years with the aim to break this cycle.

We need help to extend our program to include the partners of our young mum's during this important time in their lives.

We have many young families, like Karen, Josh, and Amber who need your help to raise their children in a safe and loving environment..

KAREN'S STORY

When Karen fell pregnant she was 16 years old, living in a women’s refuge centre, and a heavy ice user.

“I had a feeling I was pregnant, because every time I was smoking I would feel really sick. My stomach really hurt, but I thought it was just the stuff I was having?"

“Before I had Amber, I used to not be a good person. I was in so deep and I used to hang around with people I shouldn’t have even known. I was on it (ice) for one and a half years and it took me to have a baby to realise I needed to pull up. I just knew I had to stop!” – Karen

Will you help young families bring their babies into a happy and loving home?

“If I didn’t have the HOPE program to help me find accommodation and get on my feet, Amber could have been taken away from me. The program provided the support I needed for everything in life. For me, for Amber, the house. And I know I can call someone if I feel stressed or need help.” - Karen

The extension of the program will offer young fathers:

  • Individual case planning services to get employment training, obtain safe accommodation, and any other needs they may have to prepare for the arrival of their baby.
  • Group sessions for young dads to get together and build peer support networks. A peer group environment with others, who share the same experiences, is an ideal forum for personal and confronting conversations.
  • Essential parenting education and advice to build their confidence on how to be a dad – when many young men have not had the benefit of good role models in their own lives.

But we can’t do it without your help.

“If I didn’t have the HOPE program to help me find accommodation and get on my feet, Amber could have been taken away from me. The program provided the support I needed for everything in life. For me, for Amber, the house. And I know I can call someone if I feel stressed or need help.” - Karen
