CALD Casework Assist Project
What is the CALD Casework Assist Project?
The CALD Casework Assist Project is a wrap-around service which aims to supplement CatholicCare Sydney Family Support Programs. The specific aim of this project is to provide culture and language support to caseworkers in the Family Support and Intensive Family Support programs where families have little or no English language skills.
This project recruits social work (or equivalent) students from universities and TAFE colleges who have a CALD background and have verbal and written fluency in their own language, to be employed as co-caseworkers.
Co-caseworkers work directly with a CatholicCare caseworker and the family to provide language translation and culturally relevant information, and offer culturally sensitive responses to complex casework issues.
Each co-caseworker is employed specifically for each CALD family referred to the Cabramatta West Family Support Program and Intensive Family Support Program, and is employed on a casual basis for the duration of the Family Support engagement with that particular family.
Who does the CALD Casework Assist Project support?
To be eligible for this project, families must have children aged between 0-15 years and live in the Fairfield LGA or limited parts of the Liverpool LGA (Ashcroft, Bonnyrigg Heights, Busby, Heckenberg, Miller, Mt. Pritchard and Sadleir). They must have little or no English speaking ability.
Any professional, community worker, family member or the individual themselves can make a referral to the Family Support CALD Casework Assist Project or the Family Support Program. Referrals to the Intensive Family Support Program are from Fairfield Community Services only.
