How COVID-19 is affecting CatholicCare Sydney

Important update to CatholicCare’s response to COVID-19

CatholicCare Sydney continues to monitor the development of COVID-19. We continue to follow advice from public health authorities and are taking all reasonable and appropriate steps to support the safety, health and wellbeing of our clients, employees and volunteers.

In line with current advice to limit contact between people as an important way to minimise the spread of COVID-19, the following changes will be made to our services, effective Monday 30 March:

  • There will be no new group sessions until further notice (current group sessions will continue observing appropriate social distancing measures)
  • For some of our programs and where possible and safe to do so, face-to-face appointments will be replaced by phone or video appointments.  

If there are further changes to our service to you we will discuss with you other ways of supporting you.

For our Home Care clients we would like to assure you that CatholicCare will continue to provide your Home Care services throughout this time of uncertainty.

Home Care is considered an essential service and should be maintained for your ongoing health and wellbeing. Continuing your services will enable us to effectively support your essential day-to-day and long-term health care needs.

We understand that our services form a vital part of our clients’ lives and we are seeking to adapt our resourcing and way of working so we can support our clients as much as possible.

We are asking for our clients support to help us minimise the impact and spread of viruses in our community. If you have returned from overseas in the last 14 days or should you be experiencing or develop flu-like symptoms such as a fever, coughing, sore throat, fatigue or shortness of breath, we ask that you please take the following actions:

  • if your have an appointment scheduled with CatholicCare please contact us in advance to discuss your options directly with your CatholicCare work or call 13 18 19
  • avoid contact with others by staying more than 2 metres away
  • seek advice by contacting your local GP or the 24/7 national hotline on 1800 020 080.

We will continue to monitor the evolving COVID-19 situation and adapt our services in line with advice from public health authorities. Additional restrictions and changes to services may need to be made over time and we appreciate your patience and understanding in this regard.

As one of Sydney’s primary social services providers, CatholicCare Sydney will continue to provide vital support to those in the community who are the most vulnerable.

This includes services to seniors, individuals and families, and all who require support during such times of uncertainty.

The wellbeing of staff and clients are of upmost importance. CatholicCare Sydney is taking every precaution necessary, in consultation with NSW Health, to ensure the health and safety of both staff and clients are protected.
