What is the Catholic Children’s Homes Enquiry Service?

The Catholic Children’s Homes Enquiry Service has been established to provide former residents of 18 Catholic Children’s Homes and orphanages with access to their archived records. 

The aim of the service is to make it as easy as possible for people to access their records, while always having their rights and privacy protected. The Catholic Children’s Homes Enquiry Service also offers assistance with further search and mediation, CatholicCare counselling services, and referrals to other services where appropriate.

Who does the Catholic Children’s Homes Enquiry Service support?

The Catholic Children’s Homes Enquiry Service provides assistance to:

  • Former residents of Catholic Children’s Homes and orphanages and their relatives
  • Care Leavers and relatives of Care Leavers
  • Former Child Migrants and relatives of Former Child Migrants

Due to the sensitive and private nature of the records held, and to ensure privacy is always respected, identity verification is required when requesting records.
