Our HOPE program works to prevent the need for a child protection response by addressing the underlying causes in vulnerable young families. HOPE provides much needed support to mums like Tegan, pictured above.
Young women like Tegan are partnered with our highly qualified case workers and receive tailored support on their journey to becoming the parent they want to be.
“Problems started for me when I was 12. I was abused.
“Then, word got out at school about it, and I was bullied badly.
“I began to experience intense anxiety, depression and started self-harming. I struggled to make strong friendships and dropped out of school in Year 10.
“I had only been with my daughter’s father for a month when I found out I was pregnant.
“I was referred to the HOPE program for extra support by a hospital social worker when I was 20 weeks pregnant.
"My HOPE case worker supported me to create a set of goals to achieve. We meet weekly for sessions, and she has helped me to manage my emotions and provides lots of great advice. HOPE also helped me to find and set up a home.”
Working together, HOPE helps young families find strength by providing each young mum with the means to achieve sustainable change.
Our immediate aim is to support 90 families to stay together annually - but we can't do this without help from kind-hearted members of the community.
