Parent Line - Supporting NSW Families 24/7

Catholic Care’s Parent Line has had record numbers of parents and carers calling this year. November’s statistics peaked at an all time high of 1,157 people phoning the service for assistance. The counsellors were only able to attend to 879 of those calls during that time. The average call is 22 minutes long and parents discuss a range of parenting issues with a professional and highly skilled counselling team.

The call rate has increased by a huge 39.30% compared to last years figures. These increases have resulted from a state wide publicity campaign, targeting peak organisations, service providers as well as strategic publicity in various parenting newsletters, websites and magazines.

The new Parent Line website www.parentline.org.au has had 3,153 hits since its launch in late August.

The team is looking at a range of innovative counselling/support models using new technology including video conferencing and e-counselling. The program is also looking at environmentally sustainable work practices including increased remote work opportunities.

Parent Line counsellors are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week all year round. This means over the Christmas period.
